Dear Doug,

It was fun to talk with you in front of 9 Beach. Hope you had a good talk with Trish and Stu Buchanan and a safe trip home with your grandchildren

Here is a print of the picture I was telling you about, which was taken at the urging of Ruth Roat: your next-door neighbour to the east. I don't know the date, but presumably it was after the Cockroft family had vacated 17 Beach and before Henry and Leslie Seligman moved in there. As best I can recall, these are the women and children:

Back row: Mrs. Park & Warren, May Carmichael and Elizabeth, Ruth Hatfield & Margie, Ruth Roaf, Dorothy Sargent, Freda Laurence, Elsie(?) (Roafs' nanny), Marita Kirkbride
Middle row: Doug Park, Margaret Cannichael, Bridget Roaf, Robert Park, Wilsie Hatfield, Dennott Roaf, Dougie Hatfield, Dugald Carmichael, Doug Ritchie.
Seated: Jane Roar, Judy Laurence, Michael Kirkbride, Rachel Roaf, Donnie Hatfield, Ian Ritchie, Jimmy Park.
Missing: Betty Park, Patricia Laurence

Evidently your next-door neighbours at 5 Beach were the Ritchies - Willie Watson and family must have moved in later. And as I recall it was Ken Tupper and family who moved into the Roafs' house after they went back to England. But I seem to remember watching Mr. Kirkbride write "1946" in the wet concrete of his new front walkway - they lived straight across the street from 9 Beach - so 1 bet your family was there as early as 1946 also. I wonder if the atomic spy at 18 Beach might have been Alan Nunn May? I don't recall my parents ever mentioning that he lived there, but I am quite sure Bruno Pontecorvo did not - they had a son Gilles and lived on Alder Crescent.

Please write and let me know if any of your recollections are different from mine.

Best regards,
