"The Maples" Farm

William Weekes was born in London England on September 12, 1827. His father William had come from Plymouth, Devonshire, England, to St. John, New Brunswick. After a year there he went back to the Isle of Guernsey for a year or two and then moved to London where he married and remained for several years. Then he sailed to New York with his wife and 2 children, and from there they traveled to Tunkhannock Pennsylvania where he worked as a cabinet maker. In 1834 they moved to St. Thomas and in 1837 to Mosa to farm. He was a justice of the peace there for many years. He had a store on Longwoods Road, near Strath (by No. 1 School). Later he had a store in Glencoe for many years. When he retired from business he bought a farm near Seaforth. William Weekes, the son, and his wife Lydia took over the Mosa farm from the elder William Weekes, so the farm has been in the Weekes family since 1837.

From handwritten notes in the Weekes Family Tree book prepared by Wesley Leonard in 1975. As of September 2007, the farm was occupied Donald and Lorraine Weekes in the remodeled original house.
